“Magnolia Square” Mural Unveiling

May 2025

After a citywide vote, Magnolia Square emerged as the favorite among the three finalists–Green Valley Junction, Magnolia Square and Picadilly Commons. The name grew from ideas rooted in local history and personal stories, reflecting a strong community effort.

To mark this transformation, the City partnered with Main Street Buena Vista and the Rockbridge Area Health Center on a public Mural completed in May 2025. Painted by Cheyenne Renne of Covington, the mural features the Blue Ridge Mountains, a kayaker on the river, native birds, blooming magnolias, and a hiker overlooking the valley. With its bold colors and flowing imagery, the mural turns a once-blank wall into a vibrant landmark.

Together, the name and mural highlight Buena Vista’s natural beauty, outdoor lifestyle, and community identity while setting the tone for a welcoming public space.
