DESCRIPTION:A Community Meeting will be held Tuesday\, September 7\, 2021\, at 6:00 p.m. at Oyler Pavilion\, located near the entrant to Glen Maury Park off 10th Street in Buena Vista.   The meeting will be held in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)\, to discuss the possibility of designating the remaining 23 miles of the Maury River from the Furrs Mill Road bridge at Beans Bottom to its confluence with the James River in Glasgow as a Virginia Scenic River. \nThe upper Maury River from its origin in Goshen Pass downstream to the Furrs Mill Road bridge was designated as a Virginia Scenic River in 2020.  DCR staff will provide an overview of the Virginia Scenic River program and answer questions from the public. \nMore information on scenic river designations may be found at www.dcr.virginia.gov/recreational-planning/srmain and at the County Office of Community Development\, 150 S. SUMMARY:9/11 Memorial Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we remember the heroes who lost their lives in the 9-11 attacks at a patriotic event and art installation. \nThe event will be held at Glen Maury Park adjacent to the Double Decker pavilion at 10:00 AM on Saturday\, September 11th.\nThe program will include local veterans\, politicians\, and others sharing their perspectives on the 20th anniversary of the attacks\, as well as patriotic music and a seven-gun military salute. \nThe event will be centered around the recreation of Mark Cline’s 2006 memorial sculpture of the Twin Towers from two metal storage containers\, each 40 feet tall. \nThe event is outdoors\, open to the public\, and all are welcome. Attendees are asked to follow all current CDC guidelines. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs to guarantee seating. There will be guides present directing traffic\, as well as golf cart shuttles from the parking areas to the event location.

SUMMARY:Multi-Jurisdictional REDI Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, Rockbridge County\, in conjunction with the Economic Development Committee for the Chamber of Commerce\, applied for and received one of forty-eight USDA Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) grants issued to rural communities that are collaborating for economic growth in their regions.\nThe Committee then began work with Leslie Schaller\, ACE Network’s consultant\, to determine a strategic roadmap for economic prosperity in the region. This multijurisdictional meeting aims to present the Rockbridge Strategic Roadmap and the Rockbridge Outdoor strategic plan update. The Roadmap outlines recommendations for economic growth and quality of life improvements to advance economic opportunity for Rockbridge County\, Lexington\, and Buena Vista citizens. The Rockbridge Outdoor strategic plan update exemplifies our regional cooperation and ties into our Strategic Roadmap.\nThis meeting will be held in partnership with Lexington City Council and IDA\, as well as Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors and EDA>\n \nThe meeting will be held at the Virginia Horse Center on September 20th at 5:30 PM.
