DESCRIPTION:A Community Meeting will be held Tuesday\, September 7\, 2021\, at 6:00 p.m. at Oyler Pavilion\, located near the entrant to Glen Maury Park off 10th Street in Buena Vista.   The meeting will be held in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)\, to discuss the possibility of designating the remaining 23 miles of the Maury River from the Furrs Mill Road bridge at Beans Bottom to its confluence with the James River in Glasgow as a Virginia Scenic River. \nThe upper Maury River from its origin in Goshen Pass downstream to the Furrs Mill Road bridge was designated as a Virginia Scenic River in 2020.  DCR staff will provide an overview of the Virginia Scenic River program and answer questions from the public. \nMore information on scenic river designations may be found at www.dcr.virginia.gov/recreational-planning/srmain and at the County Office of Community Development\, 150 S. Fireworks can be seen up to 6 miles away\, but are best viewed at Vista Links Golf Course\, Camden Field\, and Glen Maury Park. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beginning bikepacking event! EXACT TIMES TBA! \nWe’ll start at Red Newt Bikes in Lexington\, Virginia and head to the Chessie Trail\, a rail trail that connects Buena Vista to Lexington. We’ll ride the 7 mile trail\, then switch over the the River Walk trail in Buena Vista to get to our destination\, Glen Maury Park. \nRed Newt is partnering with Walkabout Outfitter\, who will demonstrate some cooking and camping gear. We will set up camp by the river for the night\, and ride back Sunday morning. \nThe ride is mostly on rail trails\, it’s a wide\, flat\, mulch\, packed dirt and gravel surfaced trail. There will be short sections on paved roads. \nThere will be a joint bikepacking demonstration on Wednesday\, June 2 at Walkabout Outfitter at 6:30 pm\, so if you aren’t sure how to pack your bike or what gear you need\, come to the demonstration!

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, May 21st at the Glen Maury Park skate rink for demonstrations on how to set up and take down tents\, build/start a fire\, tie knots\, wilderness first aid\, and more!! \nFREE to participate and open to boys and girls of all ages! \nBSA Scouts Troop 29 and Troop 92 will also be recruiting boys and girls\, 5th grade and older\, to join their troop! Join us to learn more! \nEach demonstration will be done at a separate station\, allowing for social distancing and smaller groups. All in attendance MUST wear a mask and gloves are encouraged! Hand sanitizer will be made readily available throughout the event.
